Welcome to Refractive Foundations, the official educational resource of the World
College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences. This is a teaching site for
ophthalmology residents, refractive surgery fellows, and others interested in
learning about refractive surgery.
Chapters are arranged in the following sections that generally follow the American
Academy of Ophthalmology BCSC book on Refractive Surgery. The sections can be
reached by scrolling down to the chapter or by jumping to the appropriate section
through the table of contents below. As an international organization, we are
committed to including voices from across the world so some sections will have
multiple videos for regional perspectives.
Please use the Table of Contents below to navigate through the courses. In each
course, you will find a 10-20 minute presentation from world experts, outlines of the
topic, a self assessment to test your knowledge, and an opportunity to submit
questions. We host “Refractive Roundups” with a panel of WCRS experts where we
answer the questions you submit below! The next Refractive Roundup is: TBD.
